The “embargo” is undermined

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) announced on December 21, 2022 that it will no longer accept funding for the publication of research results in embargoed scientific journals as of January 1, 2023.

For these publications, the SNSF will henceforth impose a CC-BY license, and scientists will commit themselves from the date of submission of their work to publish it in open access immediately and in compliance with the rights retention strategy dictated by the cOAlition S (and adopted by the SNSF).

The SNSF will also be actively engaged in supporting open access journals with no publication fees on the part of the scientists, also known as the “Diamond” Open Access road.

NB: Books and book chapters are not affected by these new requirements for the moment.
