No license agreement with SAGE Publishing
No mutualy acceptable agreement has yet been reached for the renewal of the Sage Read&Publish 2026-2028 licence for hybrid and gold journals (Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries information, dated 16.12.2025, and UNIL information, dated 19.12.2025).
Negociation will continue in early 2026. What practical consequences will this have ?
Publish in Open Access (OA)
There is no ban to continue publishing in SAGE’s journals. However, throughout the negotiation period, and until further notice, publication with this publisher is strongly discouraged for the following reasons :
- The institution will not cover any publication cost in hybrid nor gold journals from this publisher
- Neither the UNIL Gold OA Fund nor the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) will provide funding for gold journals from this publisher
Copyrighted publication with sharing of the author’s manuscript in IRIS (green route) is encouraged for all publication in hybrid journals.
For further information or assistance in selecting your titles of interest covered by other agreements, please contact the Library’s Open Access team : open.access@chuv.ch.
Access to SAGE’s articles
SAGE’s articles published up to 31 December 2025 will remain accessible. However, there will be no further access to SAGE journals for articles published from 1 January onwards, unless they are published in Open Access.
Your alternatives to access this publisher’s articles are :
- Seaching for articles on PubMedCentral or made easier by installing search buttons in web browsers (for exemple : Unpaywall, LibKey Nomad)
- Request a copy directly from one of the authors of the article
- Searching of an available version on our institutional archive IRIS
- The library also provides its Document delivery service
