OA financial support : 2025 Nature Branded Journals quota reached

On July 9th 2025, the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) announced the end of the Open Access cost (APC) coverage quota for Nature Branded hybrid Journals.

This means that UNIL / CHUV / Unisanté corresponding authors can no longer, and until further notice, publish their scientific articles in Open Access under the existing Nature Branded Read&Publish agreement.

Springer Nature will very soon deactivate the funding and validation workflow for Nature Branded journals.

The Springer Nature group does not allow cancellation of an Open Access license after the author chose it.

Nonetheless, if you wish to publish in a Nature Branded journal, the following options can be considered:

  • the Open Access option without any guarantee of funding under the agreement in place between the publisher and your institution. An invoice of approximately 10,000 euros (average price of an APC for a Nature Branded Hybrid journal see list of titles) will then be at your charge or your laboratory/department’s
  • the green road option: publication of your article under subscription and sharing of your Author accepted manuscript in Serval after embargo.

The Springer Compact Read&Publish agreement covering open access publication costs for Springer, Palgrave, Nature Academic Journals and ADIS hybrid journals is still active.

UNIL and FBM-CHUV-Unisanté Open Access teams remain at your disposal if you need any further information.
